The two artists had been romantically involved in the past and Tawney had always been a great pillar for Martin during their precarious years together in New York. In this letter, Martin thanked her for her financial and emotional support following a hospital admission as a result of a new episode of schizophrenia. It is known that Martin made some spelling mistakes since she was a child. In the handwritten text, there is a misspelling from which a new, double meaning emerges. She wrote “Forever is not to long” when she meant to say “Forever is not too long” The presence or absence of a single letter creates a distance, widens and transforms the meaning of her words. From this unfolding emerges a sort of mirroring image: what she said (the fact) and what she meant to say (the desire). The words come close in form (to/too) but also in the complicity resulting from two singular meanings intertwined.This work reproduces the exact location of where Martin's words fell in the original letter. printed in vinyl and installed on three empty billboards. These were located in consecutive stations following the subway line from my neighborhood towards downtown Valencia. Paradoxically, the subway line's linearity does not guarantee the letter's legibility for the content is sliced vertically. In order to read the original complete sentences, one would need to travel between the three stations, with the understanding that by the time they arrived to the next stop they would have potentially forgotten the other two billboard segments.This fragmentation accepts the impossibility of obtaining the whole picture of anything involving more than one's self, suggesting farewell letters are the&nbsp;definitive&nbsp;gesture once all that was is no longer. 150x200 cm. An account of the sun, of waves of tall grass, the silences between steps. Movement recorded as a way to elucidate the release, and the tension, felt as you walked through a polyrhythm of insects, thinking about your decision to stay and to go; a decision made out in blue.This leads me to my bends and rises in the dark. The evening school of my mind, where colors dance on the back of eyelids, structures of light are unbound, form is liberated. Form becomes a method, a ritual, to stir out myths and dreams. Cracks of time dart out showing how vast light (and self) can be.Time and place as poetic measures. These works are poetic measures, articulations of the unfixed nature of time. What can be known for sure? This blue color is simply the backside of the paper they use to print advertisements; when they are not advertising anything, they just flip them and put them face in. Yet beyond its functionality, this blue acts as a visual gap or temporary break, following a divergent logic from the ways in which billboards normally function. Scanning his handwriting on the back of one of his photos, which read Days of Clear Skies, I rescaled it, printed it in vinyl, and installed on a billboard located by the entrance of the Plaza España subway stop in downtown Valencia. This intervention in the subway’s billboard became a record of the physical movements of some passers-by in the following weeks. The&nbsp; images above show its state on day one, a pristine blue that worked as a kind of skylight for the public’s imaginations. After 3 weeks, the image registered all kinds of human activities: spits, scuffs, tags, and paper tears. &nbsp;Finally, it was covered with some fast food company’s advertisement. to present a coherent photographic self-portrait on each side of the cube. &nbsp;Progressively my hands begin to clumsily deconstruct these images in an endless turning of the cubes, reflecting one’s The commonalities between Trump’s and Franco’s misogyny lent urgency to my impulse to rescue these images, relocating the value implicit in women’s representation. In these new images, the viewer is invited to focus on the sense of touch. Idiosyncratic moments of labor, leisure, maternity, and family intimacy are illuminated within the cropping. Yet cropped from their identifying context, they have an anonymity; they are my grandmother’s hands, or her friends’, but they could be my mother’s, my sister’s, mine, or yours. This new album aims to abstract the particularities of my family history in order to allow room for others within these hands. Women’s Hands in My Family Albums was edited by GenderFail Press, a publishing and curatorial project based in Bushwick, Brooklyn, that fosters intersectional queer subjectivity. Two signed and numbered editions of 100 copies each were available for purchase at MoMA PS1,&nbsp;Printed Matter, Inc., New York and other bookstores around the world.
